• 🚣 Three rivers come together here. Coshocton sits at the confluence of the Tuscarawas and Walhonding Rivers, which join to form the Muskingum River—a unique geographic feature that gave the city its importance in early Ohio history.
• 🏘️ Roscoe Village is a restored canal town. Historic Roscoe Village is a beautifully restored 1800s Ohio & Erie Canal community where visitors can explore historic buildings, shops, museums, and living history demonstrations.
• 🛶 Its name comes from a Native American word. The name Coshocton is believed to come from a Delaware (Lenape) word meaning “union of waters” or “where the waters meet,” reflecting the city’s location at the meeting of three rivers.
• 🏛️ It was once a Native American capital. Before Ohio became a state, Coshocton was the site of a major Delaware (Lenape) settlement and served as an important political and trading center in the late 1700s.
• 🖼️ It has a museum with international treasures. Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum features exhibits on local history, Native American artifacts, Asian art, and one of Ohio’s finest collections of ancient and decorative art.
• 🍷 It’s part of Ohio’s wine country. Coshocton County is home to several wineries and is a stop along the Three Rivers Wine Trail, making it a popular destination for weekend getaways.
