Here are a few fun facts about Port Washington, Ohio:

It wasn’t always called Port Washington. When the village was founded in 1827, it was originally named Salisbury before being renamed Port Washington.
It was a busy canal town. During the canal era, Port Washington was an important shipping point on the Ohio canal system. Farmers from as far as 50 miles away hauled their produce to the village to be loaded onto canal boats headed to larger markets.
The cemetery has a unique design. Union Cemetery was laid out in the shape of a wagon wheel, making it one of the more unusual cemetery layouts in Ohio. It was named in honor of Union soldiers who died during the Civil War.
The historic Town Hall is nationally recognized. Built in 1878, the three-story brick Town Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It once housed the village offices, fire equipment, jail, an auditorium, and even a Masonic meeting room.
